Traditional Home Wine Cellar West Vancouver Builders

Traditional Home Wine Cellar West Vancouver Builders

An interior designer was looking for an experienced company to help her build a traditional home wine cellar. She hired Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, one of the most reliable master builders in Vancouver, Canada. They needed to utilize wine racks made from wood to achieve a timeless appeal. Learn more about the features of this wine cellar.

An Interior Designer Worked with a Master Builder in Building Her Residential Wine Cellar

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars completed another wine room installation project in West Vancouver, Canada. Since the owner is an interior designer, they were challenged and expected more specific instructions from her about how she wanted her wine room to look

The customer had a design plan in mind. She wanted Blue Grouse Wine Cellars to build a wine cellar that utilizes traditional wooden wine racks. She requested the wine racks to be darkly colored to match the modern theme of her luxurious home. The flooring, ceiling, and lighting fixture are her personal choice.

Being in the construction industry for more than two decades, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars is very experienced. They can anticipate what concerns the client may have. They always do their best to meet the functional, aesthetic, and financial needs of every client. They are ready to guide homeowners in determining the perfect wine storage solution for their space.

Incorporating Classic Wine Cellar Features into the Design

On this project, the room was small and is narrow like a hallway. It has a height of 96 inches, a width of 102 inches, and length of 87.5 inches. The space is similar to a cathedral because the ceiling at the center is higher than that of the sidewalls. The metal chandelier hanging from the middle ceiling added a contemporary appeal to the wine cellar.

Assessment of Needs and Creation of 3D Images of the Wine Room

Luxurious Custom Wine Cellar Design for a High-End Home in West Vancouver

Custom Wine Cellar Rack Design

Before creating the 3-dimensional drawings, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars always makes sure that the images will provide the customer a better visualization of the completed wine room. To achieve this, they made a careful assessment of the client’s requirements, taking note of every detail.

In this crucial step in building a wine cellar, they need to know the size of the collection and bottles and the overall ambiance that the owner wants to achieve. Additionally, it is also significant to know whether the client buys her wines by the bottle or in bulk cases.

After taking note of all of the requests of the designer, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars implemented them into the design. The 3D images included the various elevations, dimensions of the racking, different bottle orientations, and bottle capacities.

Custom Wine Rack Design

The team of Blue Grouse Wine Cellars recommended custom features for the racking. Both the left and right walls have the same bottle orientations. They combined different racking styles to add functionality and offer maximum storage capacity. They also made sure that the overall design is visually appealing.

Arch and Countertop Adds a Focal Point to the Racking in the Side Walls

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars added an arch and countertop, a common feature in most wine cellars in Vancouver. It adds character to the wine room. The client can use the countertop area to store and organize a few bottle and wine cellar accessories.

Your choice of lighting can make or break the ambiance of your cellar. On this project, the top of each archway has a spotlight, which highlights the objects on the tabletop.

Diamond and Wood Case Storage Bins

West Vancouver Residential Wine Cellar in Alder Wood

West Vancouver Residential Wine Cellar in Alder Wood

Since the owner loves to buy wines in cases, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars thought that adding diamond and case storage bins would provide a better way to display and organize the bottles.

The diamond bins store the bottles one on top of another. The owner can use each section in the diamond bins for sorting the bottles according to variety, style, or size.

The rectangular bins allow for storing the client’s bottles in wooden cases. Each of the three shelves can store two cases.

Individual Wine Racks and Display Row

The individual wine racks can store 750 ml bottles. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars added the openings on both sides of the arch (top section) and the diamond bins (bottom section). This type of racking displays the bottles with the cork or cap facing out.

There is a display row in the middle section of the racking, on both sides of the arch and tabletop. It pitches the bottles at a 15-degree angle to keep the cork moist.

Dried cork will cause an unwanted amount of oxygen to get into the bottle and mix with the wine. When this happens, wine will deteriorate due to oxidation.

Properties of Knotty Alder

The wine rack material is another factor that affects the overall appeal of your wine storage facility. At Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, they always make sure that they manufacture wine racks from high quality and attractive material.

On this project, they used Knotty Alder, a popular wood species widely used in the construction of wine racks. It exhibits beautiful clusters and knots, and adds a rustic appeal in wine cellars when stained and lacquered.

Safe and Dramatic Lighting

With the proper choice of lighting, you can illuminate your wine display area with visual appeal. Also, your wine collection will be protected from heat damage. Regular bulbs can damage your collection because they emit excessive heat and UV light that can affect the taste and aroma of the wine.

On this project, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars used the LED (Light Emitting Diode). This type of lighting system is ideal for refrigerated wine rooms because it does not emit too much heat. It also has a longer lifespan than incandescent and fluorescent bulbs.

Custom Wine Cellar Project in Ramona, California (a processed video transcription)

Sophisticated Home Wine Cellar Design by Vintage Cellars

Double Deep Wine rack on the Left Side as you Enter the Cellar

Today, we’re looking at a residential wine room located in Ramona, California designed by Vintage Cellars. When the customer contacted us, he was looking how to convert a room in his home to build out his dream wine room.

Looking at the design, we added many features, which allows for maximum storage and cleaning up display racking.

When doing a wine cellar with Vintage Cellars, we send you a CAD drawing, which allows you to see all the different features and layout of the room. The room is approximately 10x14x8 and holds around 3,300 bottles.

Custom Wine Rack Features

Walking into the room, we have a bridge located above the door, which holds magnum bottles. We also have here double deep racks with double high reveal display. On the back wall, we have double sided waterfall leading down to a horizontal display wine rack, which holds magnums and a tabletop above.

Behind that, we have case storage which is utilizing some of the dead space behind the waterfall. Also, in the design, we added a double high glass rack. Here, we also have horizontal display storage, which holds magnums and a high reveal display.

Here’s a side view of the waterfall which comes down into a case storage which is located below the tabletop, and the end cap which is a horizontal display for magnum storage.

Photos During the Construction Stage

Let’s take a look at a couple of photos of the progress in the California wine room. Here is the empty wine room here, and we had a glass window on the back wall, which we ended up removing and insulating.

Here are the can lights. These are insulated can lights, which you definitely want to use in a wine room.

Here, we’re doing spray foam insulation, which acts as a vapor barrier well, so you don’t have to wrap the room in a 6 ml plastic.  Here’s the stain on the floor.

Wine Refrigeration System

Up here, I don’t know if you could see this, but here is the air handler, which we used the Wine Guardian 1 ton split ducted system.

The way the ducted systems work, is while the split ducted systems you have a compressor located outside with two lines running that’s running to the air handler, which is located either in the attic or in another room.

In this case, the customer put it inside the wine room, located in a soffit, which at the end, we ended covering up.

Here’s a photo of the supply for the wine cooling system, and the return on the adjacent side of the room. Here is a photo of the Wine Guardian thermostat located on the wall, and the compressor located outside, which has an exterior housing to protect it from the weather, rain, snow.

Awesome Transformation of a Spare Room into a Custom Wine Cellar and Tasting Room in Flower Mound, Texas

Written by

Any room, regardless of shape, size, and/or location, can be converted into a functional wine storage space. Nowadays, you can build your dream wine room in your basement, garage, closet, or any area in your home. In Flower Mound, a town near Dallas, Texas, Wine Cellar Specialists built a unique custom wine cellar and tasting room in an office space. See the amazing features of this installation project.

An Expert Transformed a Spare Room into a Wine Cellar and Tasting Room

Wine Tasting Room Flower Mound Texas Bar Area

Do you have an unused space in your home? Why not convert it into something useful?

All you need to do is hire a master builder who can design your wine cellar creatively, and install the right components to ensure the proper storage of wine.

Investing in a refrigerated wine cellar offers many benefits. It will protect your wine collection from damaging factors. If designed with creativity, it can also enhance the beauty of your home. We recommend a custom design for those who want to create a stunning wine storage display.

Wine Cellar Specialists, one of our trusted partners in wine cellar construction, has recently completed an installation project in a city located northwest of Dallas. They added custom features to the design to create a unique wine cellar and an adjoining tasting room. They also made sure that the room has an airtight seal to keep the wine’s complex flavor and aroma for years to come.

3-Dimensional Drawings and Custom Wine Rack Features

The Office Space that was Transformed into a Lovely Texas Wine Cellar

The room that would be converted into a custom wine cellar was an office space in Flower Mound, Texas with green walls and built in cabinets. Wine Cellar Specialists created a 3D design after making a careful assessment of the room’s size, shape, and location. They also took into account the client’s aesthetic and functional requirements.  The overhead plan view shows the different elevations: A, B, C, and D.

Sidewalls

High Reveal Display Row

Left Wall Racking Flower Mound Texas Wine Room

The sidewalls (elevation A) consist of individual bottle slots at the top section and solid diamond bins at the bottom. The middle section is a high reveal display row that stores the bottles at a 15-degree angle.

This bottle orientation allows the owner to highlight some of his favorite vintages. Additionally, it also helps keep the cork moist by allowing the wine to be in contact with the cork.

When dried out, the cork might get brittle and shrink, causing an unwanted amount of air to mix with the wine. This can affect the wine’s taste and aroma.

Corner Walls

To achieve a smooth transition from one wall to another, a true-radius curved corner wine rack was installed on each end of the back wall. The high reveal display row, which lines the length of the whole racking, is installed with a light valance above it.

Back Wall

Wooden Wine Rack System for a Home Wine Cellar in Texas (Front Wall)

At the back wall (elevation C) of this home wine cellar, Wine Cellar Specialists included a solid arch at the center. There is a puck light installed above it. Above the arch are horizontal wine racks that can accommodate magnum size bottles. The rest of the top racking consists of storage slots for individual bottles.

There is a tabletop installed from the left to the right corner of the back wall. It is made from the inner portions of reclaimed wine barrels.

It is called the Infusion style tabletop, which exhibits the color of the wines that were once stored in the barrels. Since no two barrel planks are exactly the same, this feature added a unique touch to the custom wine cellar in Flower Mound, Texas.

Below the tabletop are six double deep X-bins. There are six rolling case storage slots below the X-bins, which provide quick access to the cases stored at the back areas.

Quality and Attractive Wood Variety for the Wine Racks

For wine collectors who want to achieve a classic look in their wine rooms, wooden wine racks are recommended. Wood’s natural beauty can enhance the beauty of a wine cellar. They can also go well with the existing décor of your living space.

In this project, Wine Cellar Specialists used All Heart Redwood for the storage racks. In addition to its natural beauty, this type of wood is stable, and highly resistant to shrinkage, insects, molds, and mildew. In addition, it has natural wood preservatives that make it a favorite material in wine rack construction.

All Heart Redwood is ideal for refrigerated custom wine cellars in Flower Mound, Texas because it has the ability to withstand the extreme changes in temperature and humidity.

Wine Cellar Library Ladder

Texas wine cellar feature ladder rail attached to a 4-inch wood panel

Ladder Rail Attached to a 4-Inch Wood Panel within the Racking

Your wine cellar should not only keep your wine safe and beautify your home, but it should also provide convenience in accessing your bottles.

In this project, a library ladder was included to allow the owner quick access to wines stored in high areas of the racking. It is made from All Heart Redwood, coated with chocolate brown powder, and comes with Starburst wheels. The ladder rail is attached to a 4-inch solid wood panel on the racking.

Wine Tasting Room and Bar Area

Wine Cellar Specialists built an adjoining wine tasting room and bar area. This is a great addition to the home, allowing the owner to have a nice area for entertaining friends and hosting wine tasting parties.

Custom Features

The walls and ceiling of the tasting room is designed with Stonecoat. This a material made from crushed limestone that is blown on to the surface. After the application, it is then hand carved and colored according to the client’s preference.

Made from Knotty Alder, the home bar consists of open shelves on the left and right sides. The shelves have racks for the glassware. There is a lighted cabinet at the center of the bar. The bottom section has a built-in refrigerator (Uline brand 3036 model) with two drawers above it. The refrigerator has solid cabinets on both sides.

Wine Cellar Specialists installed a 36 x 96-door with a window on each side. The frame is made of Knotty Alder applied with Chappo stain and lacquer.

The glass panels are dual paned. The wine cellar door is equipped with full weather stripping and an automatic door bottom.

The entrance to the wine tasting room is constructed with a double wrought iron gate. It was manufactured in Oil Rubbed Bronze and comes with a Victorian Style handle set and lock.

How a Master Builder Transformed a Carriage House into an Elegant Wine Cellar in New Orleans Louisiana

Written by

It requires an expert in wine cellar design and installation to create a wine storage facility that will impress and meet all the requirements of the owner. In New Orleans Louisiana, a local contractor needed to renovate a wine room. The space was previously used as a carriage house in one of the mansions in the French Quarter, the oldest neighborhood in the city. They sought the help of Wine Cellar Specialists, who partners with WholeCellar in building custom wine cellars.

Elegant Design for New Orleans Louisiana Custom Wine Cellar

French Quarter New Orleans Courtyard

The Carriage House Before the Installation of the New Orleans Wine Cellar

New Orleans is a city in Louisiana where you can find its most famous neighborhood called the French Quarter. Known as a prime destination in the city, the French Quarter is home to hotels, restaurants, bars, residential, and tourist-oriented commercial properties. It is an ideal place for people who love to enjoy excellent food and fine wines.

In addition to enriching the wine tasting and dining experiences of its visitors and local residents, the French Quarter is also an ideal place to enjoy a leisurely walk while viewing the architecture built in the late 18th century.

A carriage house in the historic mansion had to be renovated to build a refrigerated wine cellar. A local contractor sought the help of Wine Cellar Specialists. WholeCellar has collaborated with Wine Cellar Specialists in many of their installation projects.

Wine Cellar Specialists Created a Beautiful Design for the Wine Room

New Orleans French Quarter Carriage HouseWine Cellar Specialists created the design for the New Orleans Louisiana custom wine cellar. They also provided the cooling system, wine racks, door, lighting, ladder, rails, and the glass window. They also made a careful assessment of the client’s needs to ensure that the wine room meets all the functional and aesthetic requirements.

Before the installation started, the carriage house used to have two entryways. The left door was the entrance to the carriage house, and the right door was the entrance to a bathroom. The room also had a wall with rectangular windows in the lower section, and a large sun-shaped glass window at the top.

Whatever the size and shape of the room that needs to be renovated, Wine Cellar Specialists can create a stunning wine rack design for their client’s collection. There may be space and/or financial challenges that may not be avoided during the planning and construction stages, but nothing can hinder an experienced and creative team to build an impressive wine display.

Wine Rack Components

New Orleans Wine Cellar Design by Wine Cellar Specialists

3-Dimensional Wine Cellar Design New Orleans

Wine Cellar Specialists designed the wooden wine rack system to accommodate about three thousand bottles. They used different combinations of racking styles to create a sophisticated display while maximizing the storage space.

The left wall is the wall where the rectangular windows were located. The bottom section consists of diamond bins, individual racks, and case storage bins. The upper racking also has individual storage slots, and two sections of French style wine racks. Centered above it is a large window with a sunburst design made of antique green glass. Built within the racking, a grill cover and box on both sides of the window were added to hide the twin evaporators.

Custom Wine Cellars New Orleans Builder Design Installations

Right Wall Wine Rack Design New Orleans Project

Wine Cellar Specialists incorporated a high reveal display row that lines the middle section of the left and right walls. This configuration highlights some of the fine wines of the collector. The light valance for the led strip lighting was placed above the display row.

The right wall wine racks have the same configurations as the left wall. The only difference is that the right wall has no glass window, only more slots for individual bottles and additional two X bins.

The center of the back end wall was installed with two drawers, with cabinet doors below them. Both sides of the cabinets are double deep X bins intended for bulk storage. The cabinets come with an adjustable shelf inside, and the drawers are self-closing. The installer provided the granite countertop above the drawers.

Wine Rack Features New Orleans wine cellar

Back Wall Wine Racks with a Solid Arch, Drawers and Cabinets

Above the drawers is an eye-catching solid arch with puck light. Glass racks were added to each side of the arch. The racking is finished off with a solid quarter round wine rack at the door wall.

Another beautiful feature of this New Orleans Louisiana custom wine cellar is the center island. To maximize the storage capacity of the room, Wine Cellar Specialists included horizontal display racks on both ends and solid diamond bins on both sides.

The horizontal display racking can house standard 750ml or magnum size bottles. Like the counter top at the back wall, the granite table top for the center island was provided by the installer.

Rolling Ladder – a Special Feature of the New Orleans Louisiana Custom Wine Cellar

Bent library ladder with Sunburst wheels and hook assembly New Orleans wine cellar

Wine Cellar Rolling Ladder

Rolling ladders, which are also known as library ladders, are in demand in wine cellar construction. For many homeowners, a rolling ladder is a great addition to any wine storage facility.

Its role is to allow the collector quick and convenient access to bottles stored high above the racking. With a rolling ladder, you don’t need to climb up a chair or stool to get hold of a bottle beyond your reach.

There are two types of rolling ladder: straight and bent. For this project, Wine Cellar Specialists used a bent rolling ladder.

It is ideal if you have double deep wine racks at the bottom section of your racking. It comes with hook assembly and sunburst wheels.  The matte black rails, which line the whole racking, are attached to a solid wood.

The Wood That Gave the Wine Room Rustic Appeal

The material used for the wine racks contributes to the overall look of the room. For this wine cellar installation project, the wine racks were constructed from Knotty Alder. This type of wood is known for its rustic appeal.

Wine Cellar Specialists contactAdditionally, Knotty Alder is recommended for wine cellars because it has the ability to withstand extreme changes in conditions. Other properties of this wood that make it a favorite of master builders include its natural beauty, durability, and high resistance to warping.

A Successful Newport Beach California Wine Closet Conversion

Written by

Closet conversion is becoming popular in the design and construction industry.  Many home owners are considering having a vacant small or large space in their home converted into something useful.

One residential owner in Newport Beach contacted a California wine cellar builder to request help in converting his closet into a custom wine cellar.  The client wanted a wine storage and display space that was both functional, and elegant.

Newport Beach California Wine Closet Project Site

Newport Beach California Wine Closet Project Site

Vintage Wine Cellars, the California wine cellar builder that the client contacted, came up with a gorgeous custom wine cellar design.  It featured a stunning wine rack design to store and display wine bottles, a wine cellar cooling system to cool the wines, a glass wine cellar door, and matching wine cellar flooring.

Wine Rack Design Features

The wine storage and display racks are a combination of several different wine rack designs, including:

  • Single bottle storage wine racks
  • Horizontal display wine racks
  • High reveal display rows
  • Arched tabletop
  • Diamond bin cases
  • Rectangular bins

Single Bottle Storage Racks and Rectangular Bins

Single Bottle Storage Racks and Rectangular Bins

The single bottle storage wooden wine racks store 750 ml wine bottles individually, in cubicles with 3 ¾ inche openings, which are perfect for easy bottle access.  The bottle holders on each cubicle are hand sanded, to protect wine labels from scratches.

The horizontal display storage with a high reveal display row runs on the entire length of the walls.  This feature angles the wine bottles at 15 degrees, keeping the corks moist and the bottle tightly sealed.  An LED lighting fixture was also added, to illuminate the angled wine bottles on the display row.

At the center of the wine closet is a tabletop with an archway, where wine pouring or decanting can be done.  It features a lovely art piece, which is highlighted by a puck lighting.

At the bottom of the tabletop are solid diamond bins, which store wine bottles one on top of the other.  Diamond bins are ideal for bulk wine storage.

At the side of the wine closet are rectangular bins, which maximize the small storage space.  This wine racking style gives the wine collector an option to store wines by group (by variety, origin, size, age, etc.). This wine rack design is a wise option for storing 1.5L and 3L bottles.

The wooden wine racks are made of Premium Redwood, one of the best wood types used in the wine racking industry.  A dark walnut stain was applied to the wooden wine racks.  The natural aesthetic appeal of the stained redwood adds beauty to the wine cellar.

The total storage capacity of this wine closet is 840 wine bottles.

Efficient Cooling using a Fully-Ducted Wine Cellar Cooling Unit

Wine Cellar Cooling Unit Installed in the Attic

Wine Cellar Cooling Unit Installed in the Attic

This Newport Beach California wine closet is highly functional, as it is equipped with a wine cellar cooling system.  This maintains the right balance of temperature and humidity inside the wine closet.

Vintage Wine Cellars installed a fully ducted wine cellar cooling unit from Wine Guardian.  It is a self-contained wine cellar cooling system, and it can be installed either indoors or outdoors.

For this Newport Beach California wine closet, the cooling unit was installed indoors, in the attic located just above the wine cellar.  The wine cellar cooling system is assembled in a platform with a drain pan.

The duct system of this wine cellar cooling unit supplies cool air into the wine cellar and exhausts hot air outside. A louvered grill that matches the wooden wine racks covers the cooling unit.

Wine Cellar Entryway and Flooring that Attractively Matches with the Wine Racks

Barolo Glass Wine Cellar Door

Barolo Glass Wine Cellar Door

The cellar door used is a Barolo style dual-paned glass wine cellar door.

This entryway has two door openings, and it has certain features that ensure a tight seal to the room, and these include weather stripping and a concealed door bottom.

The wine cellar door was coated with a Chestnut wood stain, creating a beautiful contrast against the Premium Redwood wine racks.

To enhance the look of the wine cellar, the owner chose a unique tile flooring. The color scheme of the flooring matches charmingly with the wooden wine racks.

Custom Wine Enclave Coto de Caza CA Golf and Racquet Club Project by Coastal

Meeting the Client and Starting the Project

The Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club is among the finest private clubhouses in Orange County, California.  The 36-hole country club features a 44,000 square foot clubhouse thatis an ideal setting for weddings, business meetings, and private parties.  The club recently remodeled Preserve, their upscale dining room, to include a 1,380-bottle capacity wine enclave, where members can store and display their private collections.

In November 2013, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars was contacted by an architectural firm in San Diego, California.  They wanted to add a glass covered custom wine enclave to the newly remodeled Preserve Dining Room.  The room measures 11’ wide, 2’ deep and about 9’ tall.  After several consultations, and a couple of site visits, Coastal prepared a three dimensional design.

A 3D wine celalar design work from Coastal provides a three dimensional illustration of the proposed wine cellar design.  The wine cellar design package includes plan views (elevations and 3D views), total bottle capacities, construction guidelines, and an audio/video tour of the design.

The Wine Cellar Design Features

Stunning Metal Wine Rack Displays

Contemporary Metal Wine Rack Display

Contemporary Metal Wine Rack Display

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, SoCal’s leading expert in wine cellar design and construction, created a climate-controlled commercial display wine room, encased in glass, that features VintageView metal wine rack displays.

Three sets of seamless 1/2″ glass doors provide access to the wine enclave.  To stabilize the climate conditions inside the wine storage space, the Coastal team recommended a Model D088 from Wine Guardian.

Unlike wood-based wine racks, metal wine rack displays provide a contemporary look that will go well with any modern interior.  VintageView metal wine rack displays are designed to hold bottles in a label forward orientation, allowing for ease of product recognition.

The horizontal placement of the bottles also helps maintain the continuous contact of the cork with the wine, thereby ensuring its sealing quality.

Coto Golf Club Vintage View Metal Wine Rack Displays Before Glass

To increase the total bottle capacity of the custom wine enclave Coto de Caza CA, the Coastal team installed metal wine displays in single and triple deep configurations.

Triple depth wine racks can hold three bottles in a single row; two wine bottles are stored behind the visible bottle.

The metal wine racks are mostly label forward horizontal displays.  A presentation row running the width of the racking system was also installed, for showcasing the finest wine bottles in the collection.

The metal wine rack displays come in a black satin finish, to give them a stainless steel effect.  A three deep configuration wine display rack is located right in front of the series of glass doors that lead to the wine enclosure.

Single deep display racking is installed on the rear, fixed glass panel.  The wine rack design is set up in such a way that the bottles appear as if they are floating when viewed from the outside.

Tempered Glass Walls and Doors

The Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club contemporary wine cellar display is encased in seamless 1/2″ tempered glass walls and doors.

The glass covered custom wine enclave is an aesthetically pleasing addition to the clubhouse’s Preserve Dining Room.  The heavy duty glass doors are hinged on self-closing, commercial grade pivot sets.

To maintain the ideal wine storage temperature of 58 degrees Fahrenheit and a relative humidity between 50 to 60 percent, the Coastal team recommended a self-contained air duct handler, by Wine Guardian.

After conducting a heat load calculation, it was determined that the Model D088 wine cellar cooling unit would most efficiently cool the glass encased wine cellar.

Wine Guardian is a world-renowned manufacturer and provider of wine cellar cooling solutions.  Their wine cellar cooling products provide whisper-quiet operation and superior cooling performance.  They offer different types of cooling systems, including through the wall units, split cooling systems, ducted units, and humidifiers.

The Model D088 is a self-contained, fully ducted wine cellar cooling unit, that is ideal for medium to large residential and commercial wine cellars.  This cooling unit not only provides optimum temperature and humidity control, but also adds to the aesthetic quality of the wine storage space.

Wine Guardian Model D088 Wine Cellar Cooling Unit

Wine Guardian Model D088 Wine Cellar Cooling Unit

Since this wine cellar cooling unit can be ducted up to 25 feet away from the wine enclosure, it eliminates the presence of mechanical equipment in the room, thus promoting a quiet storage environment.

For this particular project, the cooling unit was placed in the ceiling.  Installing the climate control unit out of sight eliminates any presence of mechanical equipment in the custom wine enclave Coto de Caza CA, and allows the wine cellar builder to maximize available space.  Ceiling mounted units also provide better air distribution and circulation.

Texas Wine Cellar Closet Conversion

Pantry Storage Closet

The Williams wine cellar project.

Walk with me on a journey where we took a storage closet pantry and turned it into a beautiful Texas wine cellar.

Our clients had a closet they wanted to turn into a wine cellar. The door was a solid door.

The interior included shelves on the three walls. The left wall was exterior wall and the ceiling was nearly 11 feet tall.

The 3D Drawings

We discussed racking, cooling, and doors with the customer, and created a drawing for their approval. He overhead view shows the room, and the doorway, which is on an angle. We have three elevations of wine racks – elevation A (the left wall), elevation B (the back wall), and elevation C (the right wall).

Elevation A

Elevation A - Williams Texas Wine Cellar

Elevation A (Left Wall)

On elevation A, we positioned the RM 2600 ductless split system at the top. We created a grill cover and box to incorporate the unit into the racking.

This wall is made up of all individual bottle racking for 750-sized bottles. It has a high reveal display row with a light valance where we positioned our LED lighting. The crown molding around the entire room is a 4-inch crown. The base molding is a standard 1 ½ inch base.

Elevation B

Elevation B - Williams Texas Wine Cellar

Elevation B (Back Wall)

Elevation B includes more individual bottle storage at the top and a solid arch with puck light opening. Here, we will install an LED puck light. The tabletop will be created out of reclaimed wine barrels. The area below the tabletop is double deep to accommodate room for six wood cases.

Elevation C

Elevation C (Right Wall) - Williams Texas Wine Cellar

Elevation C (Right Wall)

Elevation C is all solid horizontal racking. The entire upper is made to hold 750-sized bottles. The bottom section from the tabletop level down can hold Magnum size bottles. The Magnum racks can also accommodate 750-sized bottles if needed.

On the end of this rack, we have placed the mini quarter round unit end the row nicely before the door. The 3D views will better show how the wine racks will look upon install. This is the overhead, the left wall and back, the right wall and back.

Here you can the small shelves in the quarter round section at the end. This is the back wall and the view of the Coto door from the outside. We made this door square with arched glass instead of a fully arched door as shown on our website. On to the completed project and our after photos.

Wine Cellar Door in Knotty Alder with Chappo Stain and Lacquer

Wine Cellar Door in Knotty Alder with Chappo Stain and Lacquer

Here, we are walking to the cellar, and first see the Coto door. This wine cellar door is created with knotty alder wood, stained with Chappo stain and lacquer.

The color was chosen to work well with the current cabinetry next to the door. The door has a square top with arched glass. The great design in the center of the door is hand carved.

Racking and Door Features

The handle set and lock is a French colonial egg and dart from the hardware catalog on our website. It is in oil-rubbed bronze. The iron on the door is black. Both the upper and lower sections of the iron is operable. It opens for ease of cleaning the glass behind.

As we enter the room, we see the individual racks on the left side. They were created from knotty alder wood and were left unfinished. The display was a high reveal without posts. This means, there is not a divider between every bottle. The display row has a light valance above to hide the LED ribbon lighting. The upper section includes a grill cover and box, which hides the RM 2600 split wine cooling system.

Horizontal racking holds 750 size bottles above the tabletop level

Horizontal Wooden Wine Racking

The upper back wall includes more individual bottle storage above the arch. The back wall includes the individual bottles and arch tabletop, and double deep case storage. The arch is a solid arch with an LED puck light.

Here’s a view showing the arch area with racking on both the left and the right. The case storage below the tabletop is double deep. The reclaimed wine barrel tabletop is the cooperage style with cooperage markings. The right wall has horizontal wine racks to hold 750-sized bottles at the top, and it accommodates Magnum size bottles at the bottom.

The horizontal racks are solid and have a dimple base to hold the bottles in place. The mini quarter round at the end has shelves, which can hold bottles standing up. The center inside of the Coto door is a solid wood piece. The great design is on the front side only. Here’s the view from the other end of the hall with the door open to the cellar.

Unique Residential Wine Cellar with Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racks Installed

To keep your wine collection safe, you need to have a wine storage solution built. Your wine storage solution does not have to be dull and boring. Your wine storage space can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. One way you can make a wine cellar more interesting is by choosing a beautiful wine racking system. One of the most elegant wine racking systems in Vancouver, Canada is Vintage View Wine Racks

A Residential Wine Cellar is a Basic Need for Wine Collectors

In the past, wine was something that only the rich could acquire. More specifically, only those with royal blood could enjoy wine on a regular basis. But these days, almost everybody has easy access to wine, and what’s more, almost anyone can start their own wine collection. If you are one of those who wish to start their own wine collection, you need think about having a place to keep it. Wines are very delicate, and they need to be stored in very specific temperature and humidity levels in order for them to remain at a good quality. There are various ways you can store wine, but the most ideal storage solution in Vancouver, Canada, is a residential custom wine cellar.

Designing Your Wine Cellar to Stand Out

As more and more people in Vancouver, Canada are starting their own wine collection, many of them are having wine cellars built. More specifically, they are having their wine cellars constructed in their own homes. Since a lot of homes now have their own residential wine cellar, it is a challenge for new wine collectors to make their wine cellar stand out from the rest. One way to make a home custom wine cellar unique is by choosing what kind of wine racks to install. One of the most unique and beautifully designed wine racking systems is the Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racking System by Blue Grouse Wine Cellars.

What are Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racks?

There are many kinds of wine racking systems in Canada. They vary in sizes, shapes, designs, and materials. One of the most beautiful types of wine racking systems is the Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racking System. This kind of wine rack allows wine bottle labels to be visible, because the bottles are positioned horizontally, unlike in the traditional wine racking setup wherein only the wine corks can be seen. Also, what makes Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racks a great option is that they are built in such a way that they can be stacked or cut for the perfect fit in almost any wine storage solution.

Wine Cellar Construction Project with Vintage View Wine Racks Installed

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars is one of the leading companies in Vancouver, Canada, that designs and builds effective, durable, and beautiful wine cellars, both for residential and commercial purposes. One of Blue Grouse’s most recent projects is a contemporary looking home wine cellar built in Vancouver, Canada.

The area in the client’s home to be turned into a residential wine cellar was an L-shaped room. One of the biggest challenges faced in this project was the limited space, and Blue Grouse dealt with this by renovating the entire room and created inset cubbies. These inset cubbies were built into the room’s wall; the wine racks were placed in these cubbies. The wine racks were made to be even with the cubbies, and did not stick out past the depth of the walls.

One of the best features in this residential wine cellar is the wine racking system that was installed. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars mounted Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racks, with brush nickel finish applied. The racks in this particular wine cellar were 3 bottles deep. Although you may choose from 1-bottle to 3-bottles deep options with Vintage View Wine Racks, all three options vary slightly in price. Since their prices aren’t very different from each other, most wine enthusiasts choose to have their wine racking system at 3-bottles deep, so that they can opt to expand their collection should they want to in the future. The racks in this home wine cellar were front-loaded, but should the wine collection expand, each rack still has 2 more wine bottle slots available.

At the corner of the residential custom wine cellar room, a little display area was included. Wooden cases can be placed in this display area.

Vintage View Wine Racks by Blue Grouse Wine Cellars

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars is one of the primary suppliers of Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racks in Vancouver, Canada. Vintage View Wine Racks come in various custom color options, that range from satin black to brushed nickel standard finishes. Compared to other types of wine racking systems, Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racks provide more bottle density and offer a safer wine storage solution because of their rugged steel design.

Vintage View Wine Racks are built in such a way that air can flow through the racks around each wine bottle, and evenly distribute the wine cellar’s cool temperature to every bottle. This design feature makes Vintage View Wine Racks ideal for long term wine storage.

Compared to standard wine racking systems, Vintage View Wine Racks are relatively easy to install. But if you prefer to have a professional install them for you, Blue Grouse offers installation services for these racks too. Their installation services are available for customers who are within the Vancouver lower mainland area. Vintage View Wine Racks are also relatively easy to maintain, and can last a very long time if maintained properly. Blue Grouse offers a limited lifetime guarantee for their Vintage View Wall Mounted Wine Racking System.

Blue Grouse supplies Vintage View Wine Racks outside of the US and has them manufactured abroad. Blue Grouse Wine Rack Installation Project in Surrey, BC

One of the most recent and successfully completed projects by Blue Grouse Wine Cellars is the wine storage solution in Surrey, BC. In this project, the client was a contractor, building a spec home. Spec homes are built not for any specific owner, and because of this, the contractor wanted to make sure that this house looked as good as possible without spending a lot of money. They decided on modular wine racking; the best solution to achieve the beautiful but budget-friendly design.

Modular Wine Racks: What Are They?

There are many types of wine racks in Vancouver, Canada, and modular wine racks are a few of the most sought-after types. Modular wine racking is a popular choice, because clients can pick from an unlimited combination of rack modules. Clients can mix and match these module options, to achieve a wine rack design that fits their preference. Because of this, modular wine racking allows wine collectors to reconfigure and expand their wine racking structure, and create more storage space to accommodate their continually growing wine collection.

Modular wine racks in Canada come in various sizes, materials, and designs. With this wide array of options, creating a personalized wine storage design is easy, because wine collectors can just pair their choice of modular wine rack kits to meet their specific wine cellar needs. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars offers clients an extensive list of modular wine racking systems options. Clients can assemble basic building blocks, join them together, and create unique wine racks that may be big, small, or extravagant.

The Design of the Modular Wine Racking System in Surrey, BC

The modular wine rack installed by Blue Grouse in the wine storage solution in Surrey, BC was a unique combination of kits. It had very interesting features, that, all together, made the wine cellar look elegant and classy. The wine racking system’s features includes:

1. An Archway Feature

The modular wine racking system’s design included a lovely archway feature. This feature was the only slightly customized feature of the residential wine cellar. It was included in the design to give the wine storage room a little bit of flare.

2. Countertop Feature

The client wanted the future home owners to have a flat surface to use to sort out and organize the wines in their collection, and so a countertop feature was included in the wine cellar’s design. For illustration purposes, a wine bottle was placed on the countertop in this photo.

3. Combined Modular Wine Racking

The wine racking in this project was 7 feet tall, which is the standard height for all wine racks made by Blue Grouse Wine Cellars. To make the design of this home wine cellar in Surrey, BC more interesting, the wine racking used was a combination of modules.

a. Wine Racks with Individual Bottle Slots

The first type of wine rack module included in this wine cellar was comprised of standard wine racks that could accommodate individual wine bottles. These wine racks cater to standard sized wine bottles.

b. Diamond Bins Module

Diamond X bins are the second type of wine racks in the Surrey wine cellar. These racks accommodate large sized wine bottles. Diamond bins also have removable slats, which the homeowners can opt to remove if they want to increase the storage capacity, or if they want to fit in some small wood cases.

Blue Grouse recommends that their clients store the same types of wine bottles in one bin, so that their collection is conveniently organized. They won’t need to pull bottles from the bottom of the bin, and thus, avoid moving the wine too often.

4. Display Row

Once the combined modules were stuck together, the area in the middle that connected all of them became the display row. This display row tilted the wine bottles at a 15 degree angle, which was adequate to keep wine corks moist, while allowing the labels to be visible.

5. Wine Cellar Lighting

Wine Cellar Lighting Fixtures

Residential Wine Cellar Lighting in the Wine Cellar in Surrey, BC

Rope lighting was included in the wine racking. The lighting started inside the archway and carried on through the display row. The lighting added a beautiful dramatic effect to the wine racking design.

A lamp was also included, as seen in this photo. The lamp uses LED lighting, a type of lighting that does not generate too much heat, and does not consume much electricity.

6. Curved Corners

Another feature that made the design of this Surrey wine cellar more interesting were the curved corners, made of individual bottle slot wine racks.

Beautiful and Durable Wood Used for the Wine Racks

The modular wine racks in this residential wine cellar in Surrey, BC were made from All Heart California Redwood. This type of wood is harvested from the middle part of the Redwood tree. Its distinct characteristic is a consistent reddish color all through out.
